Les feuilles d'érable sont toujours opposées et palmées chez la plupart des espèces, avec 3 à 9 (rarement 13) nervures dont la nervure principale centrale.

Fleur d'érable rouge (Acer rubrum)
Les fleurs sont régulières, symétriques et disposées en grappes ou en panicules. Ils ont 4 ou 5 sépales, 4 ou 5 pétales d'environ 1 à 6 mm de long (absents chez certaines espèces), 4 à 10 étamines de 6 à 10 mm de long, et possèdent deux pistils ou un pistil à deux têtes. L'ovaire a deux carpelles biologiques fusionnés afin que le sexe de l'arbre puisse être facilement distingué. Les fleurs d'érable se produisent le plus souvent à la fin de l'hiver ou au début du printemps, après ou peu de temps après le déploiement des feuilles, mais peuvent également se produire avant l'émergence des feuilles.

Samares à l'érable de Norvège (Acer platanoides)
Les fleurs d'érable sont vertes, jaunes, orange ou rouges. Chaque arbre est petit, mais l'ensemble de l'arbre à fleurs vaut le détour. Les érables sont une source de pollen et de nectar pour les insectes printaniers.

La samare double est une caractéristique que l'on retrouve dans tous les érables. Le fruit de l'érable, appelé samale, est apparié dans un disamale en forme d'hélice. Grâce au vent, les graines sont transportées sur de longues distances. Selon les espèces, il mûrit sur l'arbre pendant quelques semaines à six mois et se propage peu de temps après. La plupart des graines nécessitent une stratification pour germer. Les graines peuvent "dormir" dans le sol pendant plusieurs années avant de germer. Parmi les érables, il y a des espèces utilisées en Amérique du Nord pour faire du sirop d'érable, des espèces qui fournissent du bois, et finalement des arbres d'ornement pour la taille sélective et la coloration des feuilles à l'automne. Le bel érable à fleurs écarlates était appelé eisa tomentosum ou "Sir Charles L'érable de Weiger" dans les livres de botanique et de jardinage de l'époque.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
